What are some of the common scriptures use to support the secret rapture?
2Pe. 3:10a
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night...
This particular phrase is so often quoted by secret rapture supporters that they would have you to believe that's all to the verse.
However, as always, when a scripture is taken out of context, it's going to carry a different meaning. So, let's read
the complete text and see if it supports a quiet rapture.
2Pe. 3:10b
...in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Doesn't sound so secret or quiet, does it? What Christ meant when He said He is coming as a "thief" is easily explained in the following verses:
Luk. 12:39,40
And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
1Th. 5:4
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief
His coming as a thief in the night is not to be taken as it will be a secret or silent. On the contrary, it will
be sudden and unexpected to those who do not believe on Jesus Christ and continue on with their sinful
lifestyle. His true followers will be constantly watching and preparing for that great day.
Luk. 17:34-36
I tell you, in that night there shall be two [men] in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
Two [women] shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Two [men] shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left
This passage above is also used regularly to support a secret rapture. However, Jesus
was simply using symbols to convey a point to His disciples.
Remember that in the last days there will only be two groups of people on Earth, the righteous and wicked, whether
they are living or dead.
Two men in bed - suggests sleeping, which Jesus used many times as a symbol for
death. In the end, you will have the righteous and the wicked dead. And the righteous dead
will be taken during the resurrection at Jesus' Second Coming.
Two women grinding together - women in the Bible are symbols for churches. Thus, in the end,
there will only be a true and a false church working with God's Word. However, when Christ comes
in grand fashion, only His true church will be taken.
Two men shall be in the field - connotes disciples or missionaries working in the world. Hence, there
will be true and false disciples in the world. However, to the false ones, Jesus will say:
Mat. 7:23
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Thus, the true disciples will be taken at the second advent of Jesus Christ.
In that same chapter (Luk. 17), Jesus compared His second coming to the days of Noah and Lot. God's judgment
came as a surprise to the wicked generation of those times. They were busy indulging in themselves and were
completely unaware of the immediate destruction that took place. Thus, Jesus is warning this generation
that history will repeat itself.

Conclusion
The second coming of Jesus Christ is a grand event the christian church has been looking forward to since His resurrection. And to say that
the rapture of the saints will be a secret or a quiet event is a disservice to the Word and power of God.
Friend, we should all, steadfastly, be looking forward to that day of Jesus' coming in the clouds, which will be the consummation
of our hope and faith in Him.
